The Chord C-Stream streaming cable exemplifies Chord's meticulous approach to product development, aiming to enhance sound quality in digital music systems. The initial step in creating the C-Stream involved extensive testing of various streaming cables, including Cat 5, 6, and 7 types, across a range of streamers from entry-level to high-end, and at different sample rates. These tests revealed that streaming/Ethernet cables indeed influence sound quality, with noticeable differences on both entry-level and high-end systems.

The tests also highlighted the importance of cable directionality, which impacts the overall sound quality. From these findings, Chord designed the C-Stream, a high-quality Cat 7 specification cable. It features oxygen-free copper conductors, individually shielded twisted pairs, and a comprehensive overall shield to maintain signal integrity. The cable is built with 24ct. gold-plated contacts and an over-molded plug body, ensuring durability, reliable strain relief, and preserving performance.
While conventional Ethernet cables function regardless of connection direction, the C-Stream is specifically designed for optimal sound when connected in a particular orientation. A small black dot marks one end of the C-Stream cable; this end should be connected to the source component, such as a router, when linking it to a streamer for best audio performance.
